Ian Jory - Personal History

Ian Jory was born in England and worked as an assistant trainer to several large trainers over a period of seven years, including Sir Mark Prescott and Jeremy Hindley, before emigrating to the US in 1983. During those seven years, he also worked brief spells in Australia, Germany, France and Ireland before settling in California as assistant trainer to John Gosden. While with Gosden, he worked with such notable runners as Royal Heroine, Bates Motel and Zoffany. He took out a trainer's licence in 1984 and won a $50,000 allowance race at Hollywood Park with his first starter. He went out on his own as a public trainer in 1986 with a stable of five horses.
