The 33-year-old jockey, a world-class rider with world-class woes, has been plagued by substance abuse and personal problems throughout his career. He was expected to arrive from Florida soon and begin working horses.
"He's been going to a gym and keeping fit," said veteran agent Jerry Ingordo, who booked Valenzuela's mounts before he left and will handle his business again. "He told me he will come out and work hard in the mornings, and he has to show me that," said Ingordo, who also has Joy Scott's book.
"He has to prove himself all over again. This is his last swan song."
