Texas Racing Notes From Mrs. Tittle

Letters from Mrs. Jill Tittle

Al,
The Houston Fasig-Tipton sale was not what people expected. At the Ft. Worth yearling sale, it seemed that everyone kept out their best horses for this sale. BIG mistake. The buy back rate was high and the prices were much lower than for the FW select sale. The McDermott dispersal (which kicked off the sale) was pretty sad. The mares that I had marked as being good (most in foal to Spend A Buck or Naevus) sold for $5-10K. Most of the mares sold for $1-2K.

Someone could have made some great pinhooks. The weanlings sold usually for less than $1k. I take that back--it looks like they almost all sold for less than $2k, but I saw some nice Smile babies go for under $1k. The McDermott ave was $2768. The yearling sale average was $6885, with 73 sold and 46 RNA.

Anyhow, just thought I'd drop you a line. Talk to you later.
Jill
