Faith Taylor - A Rider

Faith is a young lady with lots of talents on horseback. I met Faith when she first showed up at Hollywood Park Race Track in Southern California last October. She had just arrived from Bay Meadows Race Track up north with about 25 Thoroughbreds for Lloyd Mason, a Northern California trainer.

Faith has been working as an exercise rider since 1978. She started out working for Charlie Comiskey at Bay Meadows and Golden Gate Fields. Comiskey is one of the all-time leading trainers in Northern California.

Around five years ago, Faith went to work for Lloyd Mason as an assistant trainer. Mason decided to have a try at the Southern California tracks. At the same time, he left a number of horses at Bay Meadows where he has had a very good '95 season. Meanwhile, his horses in Southern California have managed to win three races at Santa Anita and one race at Hollywood Park. At the time of this writing Faith and Mason have moved all their horses back to Bay Meadows rather than ship to the Del Mar race meet.

Faith has also trained Thoroughbreds under her own name since 1979. She has had a few home-bred winners herself.

But, there is another side to Faith's riding that not many people on the backside know about. Faith is also a professional bareback rider and bull rider with the Professional Women's Rodeo Associaton. And she has an enviable record behind her. She has been to every PWRA finals since 1980. She has been runner-up in the bareback riding and bull riding championship numerous times.

Presently, Faith is setting second in the PWRA bareback riding for 1995. She has finally quit riding bulls (I suppose good sense eventually wins out). She has been going to as many rodeos as she can get to with all the demands of her busy schedule. Hopefully, we will see Faith sitting number 1 at this years PWRA finals this November in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Faith is not only a graduate of the school of hard knocks, but she has also attended Shawn Davis' Rodeo School with John Davis teaching bull riding and J.C. Trujillo teaching bareback riding.

Thoroughbreds and rodeos are not Faith's only horse interests. She has also raised and shown miniature horses for the last 28 years. If you're ever around San Leandro in northern California, stop in at Faith's Snow Fire Ranch and she'll be happy to show you some of her quality registered miniature horses.
